Sitinga Kachipande is a sociology lecturer who earned her Ph.D. in Sociology and Africana Studies from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), where she specialized in Global Political Economy. She holds an M.A. in Pan African Studies from Syracuse University and an MBA from Hood College. In addition, she earned graduate certificates in Multidisciplinary Research in International Development and Women and Gender Studies from Virginia Tech.

Her current research focuses on mobility studies, particularly as they relate to sex work, tourism, migration and global inequality. Her broader scholarly interests lie at the intersection of Global Political Economy, Women and Gender Studies, and Africana Studies. Her academic work has appeared in scholarly journals, magazines, and research reports. She has taught courses in Sociology, Africana Studies, and Women and Gender Studies at institutions including Virginia Tech, Montgomery College, and Trinity Washington University. Drawing on experience across academia, the nonprofit sector, and the healthcare industry, she brings an interdisciplinary and community-engaged perspective to her work.

As a public sociologist, her opinion pieces have been published in The Guardian (UK), Mail & Guardian (Voices of Africa), Pambazuka News, and other media outlets. Through her research, teaching, writing, and public engagement, she seeks to bridge academic scholarship and public discourse, translating research-informed sociological knowledge into accessible narratives that highlight social realities, amplify diverse perspectives, challenge inequality, and contribute to social change.
